my goodness, i feel you on the brain drain of social media. I personally attribute this to AI usage in my consulting role as a PM. It saps all my creative juices before I sit down to write or work in a way a previous high degree of social consumption had not before.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much AI has negatively affected my thinking. It’s also been behind a lot of my own anxiety. Not to get too philosophical, but I often wonder how much of our minds we can keep lending to AI before we stop exercising our own judgment and challenging what it gives us.

I’ve noticed how easy it is to favor the answers that already resemble what I believe. and you know, ai may repackage the thought more grammatically correct and cleanly but that doesn’t necessarily make it more original, insightful, or true than that of a human.

Peter Drucker wrote, "the aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself." (although I'm not sure how much sales people like that framing.)

I like to say marketing is everything between "I have no idea who you are or what you do" and "I'm probably ready to buy something."

I love that quote. I didn't know who Peter Drucker was until you mentioned him.

Marketing is definitely everything inbetween and I think when you're in a larger, more mature, company then there are narrowed focuses into which end of the spectrum you lean. Most of my experience has been in early stage startups, where marketing has to cover much more of the journey which is anywhere from building awareness, to understanding the customer, and then you gotta shape demand, and very often figure out a way to help create the conditions for the sale itself. It feels like a constant balancing act, but I also think that proximity has made me a stronger marketer.

Christina, I just want to tell you how much I enjoy reading your writing, because I learn so much about your world - I’ve never been in marketing, or even marketing-adjacent - in such a real, honest way. You’re crushing it.

That’s it! Keep doing the thing!

I'm always in awe of how you manage everything, Christina! But this article is spot on with the sales/marketing relationship. I believe sales and marketing work hand-in-hand. I see the content I put out as the story that helps empower people to take the next step if it's right for them.
